Shiva Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chatruvedi slammed Indian Railways for spending crores over installing selfie points at railway stations after neglecting basic facilities. The Rajya Sabha MP expressed her resentment through her X handle.
Priyanka highlighting the issues faced by the common men while travelling, wrote, “Not a single day goes without someone sharing their ghastly experience while travelling in trains. People are paying more for services even though services are going down the drain.”.
She then criticised railways minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw for spending crores on installing selfie points and regarded him as ‘PR Manthri’ in her post.
“But when you have a PR Mantri rather than a Rail Mantri this is the fate one has to suffer- spending crores over selfie points than better facilities. Shame on @Central_Railway”, she wrote.

When enquired about the money spent, as per RTI, an amount of Rs 1,25,000 will be spent on temporary installations and Rs 6,25,000 will be spend on permanent installations.
In a bid to popularize the achievements of the central government, Indian railway has begun to install selfie points at prominent railway stations across the country. The government has ordered the authorities to set up an average of 20 selfie booths at stations of each zones featuring a photo of prime minister Narendra Modi along with accomplishments. This decision has sparked discontent among the passengers as the funds are being allocated not for improving the facilities.
These selfie points are being installed in order to promote government initiatives such as Skill India, Start-Up India, and Digital India.
