“Saddened By This”: Danish Ambassador Posts Video Of Waste Dumped Near Embassy, Appeals For Action

Edited by Fazal Rahman Chembulangad

In an embarrassing moment for the government, a diplomat, Freddy Svane posted a video of the garbage littered around the foreign embassies in New Delhi, expressing his distress in his social media. The Danish ambassador to India then requested the authorities to take urgent action regarding the issue of tidiness around his Embassy building.

The video he posted on his X (formerly Twitter) shows one of the longest-serving ambassadors’ disappointment over the condition of the embassy premises. He posted the video with the caption, “Lovely and green New Delhi. Many words but no action. Saddened by this,” The ambassador also tagged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in his post.

The diplomat was seen pointing out to the Danish Embassy and Greek Embassy and to the thrashes people put in between, noting that people are dumping whatever waste they have over there. “I hope somebody will listen to this and take action. No more nice words. Just action,” he appealed.

Resharing the video, journalist Shekhar Gupta expressed his shock saying that one of the most respected ambassadors in New Delhi has to resort to a satyagraha on social media “to seek what should be done by the municipal powers that be in the normal course.”

“Terrible that a diplomat, and one of the most respected and longest-serving ambassadors in New Delhi, has to resort to a satyagraha on social media to seek what should be done by the municipal powers-that-be in the normal course. More power to you,” he wrote on his post on X.
