General Secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury was admitted to AIIMS, New Delhi, last evening (August 19) due to a chest infection. A statement from his party said he is undergoing treatment and his condition is improving.

The CPI(M) leader was taken to the hospital’s emergency department in the last evening and later shifted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
As per reports close to a party source, Yechury had gone for a checkup following a high fever, and was admitted due to pneumonia. He is currently receiving treatment and is in stable condition, report adds.

Yechury had recently undergone a cataract surgery.
