Supreme Court Grants Interim Relief From Arrest To Ranveer Allahbadia
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted interim protection from arrest to podcaster and YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia in multiple FIRs related to his obscene remarks on ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. However, the Court slammed Allahbadia, questioning whether his comments should be regarded anything other than obscene. “If this is not obscenity, what is it? Why should we quash or club FIRs against you,” the top court asked.
Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh heard Allahbadia’s plea in the matter and former CJI Chandrachud’s son Abhinav Chandrachud appeared for YouTuber in the case.

The Court reprimanded him over the language he used, expressing, “there is something dirty in this person’s mind that has been spread through this program. Why the Court should favour him?”
The top court further stated that his remarks has caused shame to daughters, sisters, parents, and entire society “The words you have chosen, parents will be ashamed, sisters will be ashamed. Entire society will feel ashamed. The pervert mind. The perversion you and your henchmen have exhibited! We have judicial system, bound by rule of law. If there are threats, law will take course,” the Live Law quotes as Justice Kant is saying.
However, in big relief, the apex court has granted interim relief to Allahbadia, directs that no additional FIRs shall be registered against him based on the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show. Besides, the Judge said that petitioner is free to approach the local police in Maharashtra and Assam for protection of his life and liberty in case of any threat. The Court also asked the Allahbadia to deposit his passport with police and warned not to leave the country without the court’s approval.
