Sushil Modi To Be Cremated In Patna Today, Likely In The Presence of JP Nadda

The last rites of Sushil Kumar Modi, senior BJP leader and former chief minister of Bihar will be held around 6 pm in Patna on Tuesday. The funeral will take place at Digha Ghat Crematorium in Patna, a senior Bihar BJP leader said.

The mortal remains of the BJP leader will be brought from Delhi to Patna around 11:30 am and will be taken to his house in Rajendra Nagar. “Later, his body will be taken to the Bihar assembly and the BJP state headquarters where party workers will pay their tribute to the departed leader,” said a senior Bihar BJP member.

He added that BJP national president JP Nadda is likely to be present.

As per the statement issued by the Chief minister”s Office, the cremation will be with full state honors.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Modi died at Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Services on Monday evening. The 72-year-old stalwart leader was battling cancer and thus was admitted to the intensive care unit at AIIMs for the last month.

Sushil Modi is known as the man who has discovered political possibility in Bihar for the BJP. He has served as the Deputy Chief Minister for 11 years under Nitish Kumar. He opted out of the ongoing Lok Sabha election on account of his health.

Having a considerable influence on the party, Sushil Modi’s absence will be felt the most in Bihar. Over 11 years between 2005 and 2020, he has served as the Deputy of Bihar Chief Minister of Nitish Kumar government.

Being an all-rounder, he has held various positions, including MLA, MLC, member of Lok Sabha, and  Rajya Sabha MP. Sushil Modi’s political journey began during his student days at Patna University. He began by becoming the general secretary of its student union in 1973.

Sushil made his first foray into politics by being elected as an MLA from the Patna Central constituency in 1990 and was subsequently appointed as the chief whip of the BJP legislative party.

He was mourned by senior BJP leaders Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Ravi Shankar Prasad. “The news of the demise of senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Shri Sushil Modi ji is extremely sad. From the Vidhyarthi Parishad till now, we have worked together for the organization for a long time. Sushil Modi ji”s entire life was dedicated to Bihar. Sushil Modi ji”s efforts have been very helpful in bringing Bihar out of jungle raj and putting it on the path of development. His absence is an irreparable loss for countless workers,” BJP Chief JP Nadda wrote.
