Two tigresses found dead in the Avalanche forest area, Nilgris district, Tamil Nadu on September 9. One tigress was found in the stream of Avalanche dam and other was found 10 meter away.
District Forest Officer (DFO) remarked the tigresses may have passed away two days before the carcasses were actually found.
According to report, the death toll of tiger escalated to six within one month. Four tigers including two cubs were found musteriously dead on August 16 and 17.
Forest officials stated the tigresses to be aged around four or five. No signs of territorial fights were detected as the carcasses were bereft of injuries.
Visceral samples taken from the tigresses during autopsy were sent for forensic analysis and tissues were sent for DNA profiling.
According to the latest tiger census by the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) in 2022, 306 tigers were recorded to be living in Tamil Nadu. And among those 114 is in the Madhumalai Tiger Reserve, Nilgris.
