In Uttar Pradesh’s Ambedkar Nagar, a 21-year-old gangrape survivor committed suicide after a police sub-inspector allegedly refused to register a police complaint against three men. The sub-inspector reportedly forced the girl’s father to omit important details while writing a complaint.

According to a police official, the cause of death has been stated as asphyxia due to hanging. No signs of sexual assault or injury to her private parts were found in the post-mortem report, said the police on late Wednesday.

Three people have been arrested so far. SI Nasir Qureshi has been removed for “mishandling the case,” and an inquiry has been launched against him.

Meanwhile, in Jhansi, a 16-year-old girl was raped by two men in a vehicle on August 21. The minor’s family stated that the girl had gone outside to defecate when she was kidnapped by the accused, who lives in the same locality, at around 6 am on Tuesday and drove towards a highway. Reportedly, two of the men raped the 16-year-old before they threw her on the road.

After getting home, the young girl informed her family about the crime, and a police complaint was filed. One of the accused has been arrested so far. The minor has been sent for a medical examination, said the police officer.
