As protests against the Kolkata doctor rape-murder continue to create waves, two more horrifying cases of rape and murder have been reported from Uttarakhand and Bihar.

As massive protests take over the country over the brutal rape and murder of the 31-year-old trainee doctor in Kolkata, another horrifying crime was reported. A nurse from Uttarakhand was raped and killed while she was returning from work.

The victim’s body was found in an empty plot in Uttar Praadesh’s Rampur district. According to reports, the incident took place on July 30.

The accused, Dharmendra Kumar, from Bareilly allegedly raped and murdered the nurse. A missing report was filed by the victim’s sister on July 31 at Rudrapur Kotwali. Her body was found on August 8. Two weeks after the nurse went missing, Kumar, a daily wage labourer by profession, was arrested on August 14 after CCTV footage revealed him following the nurse.

Four teams of city police and special operations group (SOG) officers were deployed after reviewing footage from over 500 CCTVs in the area. The 28-year-old drug addict confessed that he had raped the nurse on the night of July 31 before strangling her and smashing her head. Reportedly, the man stole Rs 3,000 and the victim’s phone before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s skeletal remains were discovered near a bush in Vasundhara Colony in Dibdiba.

Another gruesome crime was reported from Bihar where a Dalit teenager was gangraped and murdered. Her mutilated body was found near a pond in a village in Muzaffarpur district on Tuesday.

The minor girl’s mother alleged that a man called Sanjay Rai, along with his friends, had barged into their home and kidnapped her daughter. They family couldn’t fight back since Rai and his aides were armed, claimed the mother.

“Rai had been torturing us because we are Dalits and Rai comes from an influential Yadav family,” the mother’s complaint said. The victim’s father claimed that Rai wanted to marry the minor girl

Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Rakesh Kumar said that evidence of wounds from a sharp weapon were found on the palm, neck and head of the victim.

The Bihar police arrested five people in connection with the case. Rai is absconding. They have been charged with gangrape (section 70) and murder (section 103) under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

The crimes come in the backdrop of the Kolkata rape-murder case that has shaken the country. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has announced a nationwide withdrawal of services by doctors of modern medicine from Saturday to Sunday.
