Kolkata, West Bengal: Junior doctors have called for a protest march, ‘Reclaiming the Night’, again on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1 after a local court granted bail to two key suspects in the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. The West Bengal Joint Platform of Doctors (WBJPD) is planning to begin a sit-in demonstration from Tuesday.
Former Principal Sandip Ghosh and former officer in charge of the Tala police station, Abhijit Mondal, were granted bail on Friday on a surety bond of Rs 2,000 each. The court also ordered them to appear before the CBI when called.

The WBJPD demonstration will be held till December 26 at the Doreena Crossing. Dr. Punyabrata Gun, joint convener of the umbrella organisation of five associations, demanded the immediate submission of the supplementary chargesheet by the CBI.
Expressing their disappointment and loss of faith in the CBI investigation, the protestors claimed there was a nexus between the state and the central government.
The two suspects were granted bail by Sealdah court after the CBI “failed” to file a chargesheet within the mandatory 90-day period.
The opposition parties, including Congress, also organised protest rallies across the city on Saturday and accused the CBI of failing to deliver justice. The opposition alleged that there was a “tacit understanding” between the ruling TMC government in West Bengal and the BJP-led Centre.

Meanwhile, the TMC criticised the CBI for its failure to prove the involvement of the two accused in the brutal rape-murder on August 9 that sparked protests across the country. The BJP attacked the state government for allegedly not supporting the central agency in the investigation.
Sandip Ghosh will remain in custody despite the bail in the rape-murder case, as he is also an accused in a different case of financial irregularities in the RG Kar Hospital.
