Uttarakhand Taekwondo Player Alleges Rs1.5 Lakh Demanded For International Competition Selection
Dehradun, Uttarakhand: A national-level gold medal winning female taekwondo player from Uttarakhand has alleged that Rs 1.5 lakh was demanded from her to secure selection for an international competition. The athlete raised the issue directly before Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami during a youth interaction program.
Speaking at the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Vidyarthi Manthan’ or ‘Yuva Samvad’ event, the student from CNI Girls School said she won gold at the national taekwondo championships in Jammu and was subsequently selected for an international tournament. She alleged that she was asked to pay Rs 1.5 lakh for the selection, which she could not afford, and was thus prevented from participating.

In a video from the event, the athlete is heard sharing her grievance with state chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. The chief minister responded by telling her ‘sit down child’. The incident has sparked a controversy after portions of the official livestream capturing the student’s allegation were allegedly removed from government and party social media handles.
A fresh video statement from the student has now surfaced in which she detailed her financial constraints and said she received only partial support from the federation. Officials said a formal report on the matter has been sought and the allegations will be examined.
