Slamming BJP, Congress on Friday called Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya an “out and out political” event. The party claimed that the ceremony was decided to be conducted by paying no heed to religious procedures and disregarding the advice of Shankaracharyas. It was while addressing a press conference at AICC headquarters, New Delhi, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, and Congress social media department head Supriya Shrinate, attacked BJP.

“There is a system and set of rituals to perform Pran Pratishtha… If this event is religious, then is it happening under the guidance of the Shankaracharyas of the four Peeths? All four Shankaracharyas have said clearly that the Pran Pratishtha of an incomplete temple cannot be done,” ANI quotes as Pawan Khera is saying. As the inauguration ceremony is inches closer, four Sankaracharyas has expressed that they will not attend the event.

If this event is not religious, then it is political, Pawan Khera argued.

The Congress spokesperson, then questioned the selection of date for the ceremony, by stating that it has been fixed keeping in mind the Lok Sabha polls. “We want to know how the date for it was decided. Tareekh ka chunaav nahi hua hai, chunaav dekh kar tareekh tae ki hai (The date has been selected keeping elections in mind),” PTI quotes as he is saying.

Supriya Shrinate added that criticism of Congress” top leaders for not attending the event has been constructed and spread by the BJP. “There are no restrictions on anyone. There was a personal invitation and massive politicisation of the event was seen. We have refused to go on January 22. We are free to go anytime,” PTI quotes as she is saying.

On Wednesday, Congress revealed in a statement that its leaders wouldn’t attend the Ram Temple consecration event and snubbed it an “RSS/BJP event”.

The Ram Temple inauguration ceremony, or the idol consecration ceremony will take place in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya on January 22 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the chief guest at the event. Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirath Kshetra Trust is planning to invite over 7,000 people for the event.
