Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari on Thursday criticised Haryana Police“s plan to cancel the passports and visas of protesting farmers involved in the farmers” agitation. On social media platform X, the Congress veteran wrote that those who are subjected to this “coercive action” are free to contact him and he will offer free pro-bono legal assistance.

Taking to X, Manish Tewari wrote: “Have we become a fascist state that if you protest your passports & visas will be cancelled? This is a first even by the very low bar that has been set to intimidate farmers.”

“Those subjected to this coercive action are free to contact me. Our Law Chambers will fight for them pro-bono,” he added.

The post was in response to an ANI video, wherein DSP Ambala Joginder Sharma stated that the Haryana police have identified those involved in violence in the name of farmers” protest.

“We have identified involved in violence coming to Haryana from Punjab in the name of farmers” protest. We have identified them with CCTV cameras and drone cameras. We will request the Ministry and embassy to cancel their Visas and passports… Their photos, name and address will be given to the passport office. We are working on canceling their passports…,” ANI quotes as DSP is saying.

The farmers protest titled ‘Delhi Chalo’ started on February 13, and it encountered strong security restrictions from Haryana Police at the Shambhu border (Haryana-Punjab border). Protesting farmers have been halting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points since February 13.
