A recent viral video of former cricketers is receiving criticism from disability rights groups.

A day before, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Suresh Raina shared a video on Instagram after the India Champions beat the Pakistan Champions by five wickets in the World Championship of Legends final.

In the video, these former cricketers can be seen limping and holding their back to communicate the physical exhaustion taken by the matches on their bodies.  They can be seen attempting to recreate actor Vicky Kaushal’s viral dance step from the song “Tauba Tauba” from the Bad Newz.

Sharing the video, they wrote in the caption: “Body ki Tauba Tauba ho Gayi in 15 days legends cricket.. Every part of the body is sore . Straight competition to our brothers @vickykaushal09 @karanaujla our version of Tauba Tauba dance 😜😜 What a SONG”

The video has received over 1 million views so far. The cricket legends groove went viral quickly as a hilarious take to the song and it garnered comments from many celebrities including Vicky Kaushal.

Meanwhile, the Disability activists found the video to be distasteful.

The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) dismissed the video as “totally disgraceful”.

“Totally disgraceful. No words are sufficient enough to condemn such behaviour specially when displayed by people considered national heroes. Such degrading actions only exposes their total insensitivity and boorishness,” the NPRD wrote on X.

Similarly, National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) “demanded public apology and removal of the video.”

“Atrocious attitude! The Indian Cricket Team’s video mocking disabilities violates the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act 2016. We demand an immediate public apology and removal of the video. This disrespect harms 20 crore disabled Indians,” the NCPEDP said in a post on X.

The NCPEDP executive director Arman Ali demanded the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to take immediate note of the video.

Disability rights activist Satendra Singh told PTI that these cricketers are role models for a lot of Indians and Yuvraj Singh, who has battled cancer, should have been more empathetic.

“So many people are following them and they will follow these actions so there needs to be sensitivity. They have no remorse and are making fun of people with disabilities,” Singh added.
