Exclusive: Kozhikode Railway Platform Stalls Sealed For Months, Dairy Products Expired; Public Questions Southern Railway Inaction
Serious concerns are mounting over prolonged inaction at Kozhikode Railway Station, where three food stalls on Platform 1 have remained closed for several months, one for over a year, with expired dairy products left inside in sealed conditions.

A notice citing “sub judice” status is affixed to the shutters, but commuters say the lack of action from authorities is not only inconvenient but poses potential health and safety risks.
One of the shuttered stalls contains visible stacks of milk bottles and other dairy products, some of which are marked with expiry dates as far back as April 2024.
With no refrigeration or hygiene maintenance in place, and the shops fully sealed, the possibility of spoilage and pest infestation — including rats, worms, and flies is a growing concern among daily travellers.

“I’ve seen the same milk products there for over a year. There’s no security, no sanitation, and the smell is starting to seep out. Why is this being allowed in a public space?” said a daily commuter.
The stalls have effectively become unmonitored storage units for spoiled food, right in the middle of a public transit zone. With thousands of people passing through the station every day, concerns about rats, flies, and bacterial spread are escalating. Timeline contacted Southern Railway for a statement or clarification, but no response has been received.
Meanwhile, some infrastructure work is ongoing at Kozhikode Railway Station. Portions of the premises have been barricaded for construction or space renovation. However, key passenger amenities like the escalator to other platforms have not been functioning for months, adding to the inconvenience for daily commuters.
