Violation Of Norms: Health Officials Shut Downs Nine Hotels In Kozhikode During Surprise Inspection
Kozhikode, Kerala: Health department officials on Tuesday, May 20, shut down at least nine food establishments after conducting an extensive search operation in nearly 100 hotels and juice shops across the city.
During the surprise food safety inspection, the health officials found several eateries violating health and hygienic quality norms, leading to actions including slapping fines and ordering them to shut down. The inspections were held in areas including Kozhikode South, North, Vellayil, and Kunnamangalam.

Hotels and food business entities that faced action include Sweekar, CK Café near Kozhikode Railway Station, Oceanic Hotel, Ajwa, T Juice, Hot Bun in Vellayil, Famous Coolbar in Chelannoor, Itthatas in Kunnamangalam, and Al Razi in Cheruppa. All these establishments were ordered to close.
Additionally, around 11 shops have been slapped with fines, according to a report by local media, Asianetnews.

Officials reportedly held inspections in hotels, cool bars and bakery shops, and the raids were carried out in five teams. Notices have been issued to 12 shops.
The officials have warned that the inspections will continue in the days to come.
Last year, at least 68 food outlets in 14 circles (assembly constituencies) of Ernakulam district were fined and several were closed after health department found violation of hygienic norms, raising concerns of the quality of the food that people are eating outside. Eating out has become a regular lifestyle habits for the people, and it is important to be more conscious of the food safety while going out.
