Kerala: Wild Elephant Dies After Cracker-Filled Jackfruit Explodes In Its Mouth In Kuttampuzha Forest
Ernakulam, Karela: In a shocking incident, a second wild elephant died after biting a jack fruit filled with cracker in Kuttampuzha forest area in Ernakulam district of Kerala, The New Indian Express Reported.
A resident of Vellaramkuthu in Kuttampuzha forest area found the carcass of the elephant on Saturday, April 11, and the postmortem examination confirmed that the cause of death was a cracker burst into the elephant’s mouth.

Malayattoor DFO P Karthick said that the resident and owner informed them about the elephant. “The cracker was stuffed inside the jack fruit and the elephant died due to the injury caused by the cracker burst,” the reports quoted the DFO.
This is the second instance of elephant death caused by a cracker hidden inside fruit in Kerala. The first incident had sparked widespread outrage in the state against the cruelty of pregnancy. A pregnant elephant aged around 15 years has died after biting into crackers stuffed inside a pineapple in the Silent Valley forest area in 2020, sparking public debate and emotional out pours for the big animal.
