Metal Piece Found Inside Paracetamol Tablet From Mannarkkad PHC In Kerala
Mannarkkad, Kerala: A family from Mannarkkad has reported finding a piece of metal wire inside a paracetamol tablet issued by a government-run Primary Health Centre (PHC). The tablet, meant for their child suffering from fever, was reportedly prescribed and handed over by the Mannarkkad PHC as part of routine treatment.
The discovery was made by Asif, a resident, who had taken his son to the PHC for treatment of fever. As per medical advice, the paracetamol tablet was to be split into smaller portions before being administered to the child. However, upon breaking the tablet at home, Asif and his family were shocked to find a piece of metal embedded inside the medicine.

The family has decided to file a formal complaint against the drug manufacturer and has also approached the health department with the matter. The incident has prompted officials from the Mannarkkad Municipality to take notice as well.
C. Mohammed Basheer, Chairman of the Mannarkkad Municipality, condemned the incident and confirmed that the municipality will also be complaining to the Kerala Health Department and the Chief Minister’s office, reported 24 News.
The paracetamol tablets in question were reportedly part of a batch distributed through the Janakeeya Arogyakendram (People’s Health Centre) in Mannarkkad, a facility that serves hundreds of patients every week.
Local health officials have begun an internal inquiry and are expected to send the tablet for forensic testing to determine the source of the contamination.

In the meantime, there is mounting public pressure for greater transparency and accountability in the procurement and quality assurance processes used in government health services.
The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many users demanding stringent action against the drug manufacturer and better oversight of medicines distributed through public health facilities.
