Kochi, Kerala: Senior Congress leader Dr Sooranad Rajasekharan died on Friday at a private hospital in Kochi. He was 75.  As per the reports, he had been battling cancer for some time.

Rajasekharan served as a member of the KPCC Political Affairs Committee and was a former president of the Kollam DCC (District Congress Committee). Apart from this, he had also held several important positions within the Congress party, including KPCC General Secretary and Vice President.

Born in 1949 in Kollam’s Sooranad, Rajasekharan started his political journey as a Kerala Students Union (KSU) activist at DB College, Sasthamcotta.

In the election front, he contested once for the state assembly and the Lok Sabha, but turned to be unsuccessful in both attempts.

His funeral will take place in the evening at his residence in Chathannoor, Kollam. Rajasekharan is survived by his wife Udaya Rajasekharan, and children Lakshmi, Nishant Menon, Arun Ganesh, and Devi.

Rajasekharan has also served as president of the Sports Council, president and vice president of the State Co-operative Bank, and president of the Kollam Press Club.
