Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, several leaders from Tamil Nadu, including 15 former MLAs and an ex-MP, have joined the BJP on Wednesday. Majority of the leaders are from All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), a former ally of BJP in the state. This move comes as the saffron party plans to strengthen its presence in the southern state.
The event took place in the presence of Union ministers Rajeev Chandrasekhar and L Murugan in New Delhi. Besides, state BJP president K Annamalai was also present in the function. Welcoming the new members, the state president underlined that these leaders bring their “wealth of experience” to the BJP.

“They want to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he is coming back to power for a straight third term…Tamil Nadu is going the Bharatiya Janata Party way,” PTI reports as Annamalai is saying.
Aiming at the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and rival AIADMK, state BJP chief these leaders have “seen things happening in Tamil Nadu”.
Meanwhile, Rajeev Chandrasekhar underlined that such a large group of leaders joining the BJP reflects Modi”s popularity in Tamil Nadu, where the party has not been a major force. Continuing further, Union minister claimed that the BJP will win over 370 seats in the upcoming general elections since many of the new states will come from Tamil Nadu.
“It is clear that every citizen of India wants the transformation of the last 10 years to continue,” Rajeev Chandrasekhar added.
In September last year, AIADMK officially announced ending its alliance with the BJP. The party unanimously passed a resolution in this regard and said that it will lead a separate front in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
