BJP Fields Sitting MP Ashok Kumar Yadav From Bihar’s Madhubani

Edited by Fathimathu Shana

For the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Ashok Kumar Yadav filed nomination from the Madhubani Lok Sabha constituency on BJP ticket. He is the sitting MP of Madhubani. During the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, he won against the Vikassheel Insaan Party’s (VIP) Badri Kumar Purbey. Ashok’s win in the election marked his popularity in the region. He won the election with 61 percentage votes, while his main opponent came in second place with mere 14 percentage of votes.

In 2023, Ashok grabbed headlines when he was accused of taking part in a conspiracy to murder Mishrilal Yadav, a MLA from his own party. Ashok was named among 31 other people. Mishrilal said they wanted to kill him and his son. Ashok however, declined the allegations. He said he was at Delhi to attend the proceedings of the Parliament on August 2, the day Mishrilal mentioned in the complaint.

Earlier this year, Ashok made a statement that Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, will longer be Chief Minister after January 14. The statement stirred panic among politicians. Ashok said many MLAs of Nitish Kumar’s party Janata Dal United (JDU) are in touch with Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the latter’s Lalu Yadav will break JDU any time soon and make Tejaswi Yadav the Chief Minister. He added that the door to BJP is closed for Nitish Kumar as he joined the India Alliance. The BJP MP also said that Nitish Kumar broke alliance with BJP to become Prime Minister and now he is going to be taken down from the CM seat.
