BJP’s Dineshbhai Kodarbhai Makwana Wins Ahmedabad West With 6.1 Lakh Votes

The BJP candidate has secured a victory over the Ahmedabad West constituency, defeating Congress' Bharat Yogendra Makwana.

Dineshbhai Kodarbhai Makwana, the BJP candidate contested from Ahmedabad West Lok Sabha constituency has won the seat with a margin of 2,86,437 votes, securing 6,11,704 votes. In a fierce battle, Makwana defeated Congress candidate Bharat Yogendra Makwana. According to the Election Commission (EC) data, the vote margin of Makwana has marked a dip of more than one lakh, comparing to 2019 elections. In the prior two general elections, the BJP’s Dr Kirit P Solanki recorded a lead margin of more than three lakh votes in both.

Makwana is the new face in the candidate list of the ruling party. The 54-years-old candidate belongs to Vankar community in Gujarat. He is presently the spokesperson of BJP for Karnavati city unit. He had served as the Deputy mayor and Chairman of Legal Committe in the Amdavad Municipal Corporation. He is an advocate by profession.

Bharat Yogendra Makwana of Congress is a former Member of Legislative Assembly from the Sojitra seat. He is the son of Yogendra Makwana, who was notable figure in politics by serving as the Rajya Sabha Member and Union Minister in Congress led governments, and Shantaben, who was MLA and Minister in Gujarat.

Ahmedabad West is the fortress of BJP, which has only elected the party since its formation in 2009, after delimitation in 2008. It is a Scheduled Caste reservation seat, which have population of 11.82%.
