BJP First List: Constituencies From Where Union Ministers Are Contesting

A total of 35 Union ministers were included in the BJP first candidates list announced today, including the Prime Minister and Union Home minister. The Prime Minister and the Home Minister will contest from Varanasi and Gandhi Nagar respectively. Both will be fighting the Lok Sabha elections 2024 from their sitting seats.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will contest from the Lucknow constituency, the seat from where the BJP veteran has been consecutively elected since 2014. Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani has been nominated from Amethi and she had gained fame by defeating Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Labour and Employment Minister Bhupender Yadav is fielded in Alwar and this will be the current Rajya Sabha MP’s first Lok Sabha bid.

Health minister Mansukh Mandaviya will be contesting from Porbandar Constituency in Gujarat. While Port and Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will be fielded in  Dibrugarh, while the  Earth Science Minister Kiren Rijiju will be contesting from Arunachal West.

Civil Aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia will be contesting from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, where he has been an MP for three terms in Congress ticket. Culture and Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy will be contesting from  Secunderabad for the second term. Tribal affairs minister Arjun Munda will be fielded again in the Khunti constituency, where he narrowly defeated a Congress candidate in the last election. Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra will contest from Teni Lakhimpur Kheri.

There are two ministers from Kerala. Electronic and Information Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar will contest from Thiruvananthapuram. He is expected to face Congress stalwart and three-time MP Shashi Tharoor in the constituency. Minister of State for External Affairs V. Muraleedharan will be contesting from Kerala’s Attingal constituency.

Two former chief ministers are also included in the first list of the BJP. Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb is fielded from Tripura West and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will contest from Vidisha constituency.
