In a surprising turn of events, the former cricketer representing East Delhi has decided to step away from active politics. His decision has come at a time when the BJP is about to release its first Lok Sabha candidates.

Gambhir joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in March 2019 and ever since then, he served as a prominent face of the party. In the 2019 Lok Sabha election, he contested and won in East Delhi with a vote margin of 6,95,109 votes. He won by defeating AAP’s Atishi in the election.
