Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir slammed a media house for quoting him wrongly about Indian star batsman Virat Kohli following Glenn Maxwell’s stupendous double hundred in the match against Afghanistan.
The cricketing world got lucky enough on Tuesday to witness Maxwell’s mayhem at Wankhade stadium as the Australian scored 201 runs leading his team to semi finals after a thrilling three-wicket win.
An article of News 18 (now removed) claimed that Gautam Gambhir took a dig at former Indian captain Virat Kohli, saying that Virat would have taken singles on 195 but Maxwell chose to hit six.
“Virat Kohli would have taken singles on 195 if had he been there. But Glenn Maxwell chose to hit six that’s what makes him different,” the news portal quoted.
Gautham Gambhir took the news to his X handle and wrote, “What bullsh*t! When I say something I say it openly. To all the so called verified handles – cite source or apologise!”.

The news portal took down the article immediately after Gautam Gambhir’s post and also rolled out an apology to the World cup winning former Indian opener.
“Dear GautamGambhir, we sincerely apologise for the inadvertent error and the inconvenience it has caused you. Our intention was never to hurt or mislead. We have the highest regard and respect for you. The story has been taken down,” News 18 wrote on X.

Last Sunday, when Virat Kohli slammed his record-equalling 49th ODI hundred in the match against South Africa at Eden Garden in Kolkata, Gambir praised the genius batter but pointed out that Kohli slowed down the death overs against Proteas for him to reach his 49th ODI hundred and equal Sachin’s record.
“Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer batted on a different planet today. Spin was the real deal on that pitch and both of them batted exceptionally,” Gambhir had told Star Sports while talking about the innings.
