Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar Secured A Marginal Victory With 1,14,189 Votes In Barasat

TMC candidate Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has secured victory in the Barasat Lok Sabha constituency with a 1,14,189 vote margin against the BJP candidate Swapan Majumdar. This election in 2024 TMC has registered a remarkable victory with 29 candidates leading and secured the majority of the seats in West Bengal.

Dastidar defeated Dr. Mrinal Kanti Debnath of the BJP in the 2019 parliamentary election with 648,444 votes, while the former received just 538,275 votes, obtaining a majority of 110,169 votes in the overall turnout.

Compared to the previous two terms, the TMC’s majority shrank in 2019 as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) received a higher number of votes. Dastidar’s majority in the 2009 and 2014 parliamentary elections was 173,141 and 122,901 votes, respectively, with AIFB being the main opposition. But this time, a fierce contest for the seat is taking place in the Barasat constituency due to the participation of three significant parties.

In 2014, Kakoli Ghosh secured 41.39 percent of the total votes while the AIFB candidate was in second position with 27.75% votes. The BJP candidate secured 23.37 percent votes.
