Suresh Gopi has emerged as a leading candidate from the Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency. The surprising lead is analysed to have secured comfortable victory in the constituency, as the counting for the Lok Sabha elections 2024
Suresh Gopi had contested the election in 2019 and was defeated by Congress’s T. N. Prathapan. The BJP candidate was pushed to third place back then.
Notably, the election campaigns for the BJP’s star candidate in Thrissur was too aggressive, with the Prime Minister himself coming to the constituency several times and addressing rallies. However, according to political analysts, Suresh Gopi was projected to lose the race, noting the Manipur issue among others. Notably, contrary to all the projections, the BJP candidate has been raising his lead from the constituency.
Thrissur has been the only seat, where the BJP is seen leading with a significant margin from Kerala. On the other side, the saffron party’s Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar is making ebbs and flows in Thiruvananthapuram’s seat. The constituency has been witnessing intese three-cornered battle between the LDF, UDF and NDA.
