Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: Malda Dakshin, The Only West Bengal Constituency Won By Congress, Isha Khan Choudhury Wins

Isha Khan Choudhury of Maldaha Dakshin constituency is the only candidate of the Congress party in West Bengal who leads the opponent. The Congress candidate defeated BJP candidate Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury (Nirbhaya Didi) by a total vote margin of 1,28,368.

Last year, in 2019, the constituency was also won by the Congress candidate Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury.  This year, TMC had fielded Shahnawaz Ali Raihan from Malda Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency. Raihan is a historian doing a DPhil at St Antony’s College, Oxford University, under Professor Faisal Devji. His thesis is titled “Between Marx and Muhammad: Muslims and Communism in Bengal,” which he expects to submit by the end of the year. Before commencing his doctoral studies at Oxford, Mr. Raihan attended the University of Calcutta and Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi. Additionally, he held a lectureship at Al-Akhawayn University in Morocco.

Malda Dakshin a TMC stronghold was represented by Congress candidate Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury who secured a total of 34.73% votes. The BJP candidate Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury remained in second position after securing 34.09% votes. While the TMC candidate Moazzem Hossain has secured the third place with 27.47% votes.

In 2014, The Congress candidate Abu Hasem Khan Choudhury secured 34.81 percent votes which was slightly up from the 2019 vote share. The BJP candidate Bishnupada Roy secured 19.79% of votes and CPI (M) candidate Abul Hasnat Khan got 19.18 percent the votes.
