Priyanka Gandhi Signs Nomination From Wayanad; Holds Massive Roadshow

Since the poll bugle for the by-elections in Wayanad scheduled on November 13 started to sound, the Kerala constituency has attracted national attention with the presence of Congress candidate and party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the nominee of the grand old party. Ms Gandhi signed her nomination paper from the constituency on Wednesday. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Wayanad MP and opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and several other senior leaders reached the hilly district ahead of the nomination filing.

The by-election in Wayanad was necessitated when Rahul Gandhi, who contested from Kerala’s constituency and Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareilly and won from both, chose to retain the later. The grand old party then declared Priyanka Gandhi as its candidate for Wayanad.  The result of the by-election will be declared along with Maharashtra and Jharkhand assembly elections on November 23.

After signing her nomination, Priyanka and Rahul Gandhi conducted a roadshow in Wayanad’s Kalpetta, and a large crowd gathered to welcome the Congress candidate. Priyanka has been pitted against  Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate and Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Sathyan Mokeri and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Navya Haridas.

A Congress citadel for long, Rahul Gandhi has secured over 4 lakh majority during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections during her debut from the south Indian seat.

A two-time councillor in the Kozhikode Corporation, the BJP candidate has expressed her confidence in delivering stiff competition against Priyanka Gandhi while the CPI veteran has also launched the campaign for the upcoming by-elections.
