The Indian National Congress has announced “Donate for Desh”, its online campaign for crowdfunding, the party announced through its X handle. The campaign will be inaugurated by the Congress Party President, Shri Mallikarjuna Kharge on December 18th and the venue would be New Delhi.

The Bharati Janata Party’s minister, Piyush Goyal has lashed back on the Congress Campaign through his X handle, by sharing the Video image of the announcement and posting, “after the “Money Heist” of over ₹350 Cr, Congress is launching “Donate for Desh”. Whose vault will this crowdfunded money land in?”

He was taking a dig at the recent cash seizure from the Odisha-based distillery which belonged to Congress MP Dhiraj Sahu.

The Congress announcement was made on Saturday by the Party leaders K C Venugopal and Ajay Maken at a press conference. The crowdfunding campaign, the tweet said, is an initiative which is “inspired by Mahatma Gandhiji”s historic “Tilak Swaraj Fund” in 1920-21 and aims to empower” the “party in creating an India rich in equal resource distribution and opportunities.”

The campaign is to commemorate the 138 years completed by the Party. On this occasion, the Party has invited donations from its supporters, in “multiples of Rs 138 (e.g., Rs 138, Rs 1380, Rs 13,800, or more), symbolising the party”s enduring commitment to a better India.” There are two channels made available for this, one being, donateinc.in, which is an online portal and the second, is the official website of Party, inc.in, for sending in the donations.

The leaders called upon the PCC chiefs to spread awareness on the campaign through the mediums – social media and press conferences. Until the foundation day of the Party, which is December 28, the campaign is to move in the online way, after which it would be pursued through offline mediums like door-to-door campaign visits by volunteers. The plan is to target ten houses each day. The state-level office bearers, elected representatives, DCC Presidents, PCC Presidents, and AICC office bearers have been requested to donate Rs. 1380 to the campaign, this the leaders said, would ensure the success of their vision for a better India.

Senior Congress leader K C Venugopal, through his X handle, also said that the Party would be holding a “Mega Karyakarta Rally in Nagpur where 10 lakh+ INC workers from across the country will be in attendance.” He added that, the rally would send across a strong message to all Indians that problem from “levels of unemployment, price rise, hatred and a collapse of India’s democratic institutions,” “will not be allowed to go on any further,” and that the Party “will give a new path for India’s progress.”

Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party had initiated an online crowdfunding model.
