Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa of the Congress emerged victorious in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections for the Gurdaspur constituency, securing 364,043 votes and winning by a margin of 82,861 votes over Thakur Dinesh Singh (BJP), a seasoned politician and former MLA from Sujanpur.
Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is a prominent figure in Punjab politics, Randhawa has served as the deputy Chief minister and is a current MLA representing Dera Baba Nanak. With a rich political legacy and deep-rooted connections in the region, Randhawa’s extensive political experience made him a formidable contender.
The Gurdaspur constituency, a vital seat in Punjab’s politics, comprises nine assembly segments: Sujanpur, Bhoa, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Dina Nagar, Qadian, Batala, Fatehgarh Churian, and Dera Baba Nanak. Polling took place on June 1, 2024, with results declared on June 4, 2024, alongside the other 542 parliamentary constituencies of the country.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, Gurdaspur had 1,595,284 registered voters, including 849,761 males, 745,479 females, and 44 third-gender voters. The constituency also recorded 22,498 service voters, comprising 22,098 men and 400 women. This marked an increase from the 2014 elections, which saw 1,500,337 voters with a substantial male and female voter base and a smaller number of service voters.
