Number Of Hospitals Empanelled Under Ayushman Increased In Last 1 Year; PIB Refutes Report

The Press Information Bureau has clarified a Times of India (TOI) report claiming a reduction in the number of hospitals covered under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme. PIB, while calling the report misleading, provided data claiming an uptick in the number of hospitals impanelled under the Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).

Providing the increased number of data of the hospitals, PIB mentioned, “As of 30 June 2025, 31,466 hospitals (including 14,194 private) are empanelled under Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) – up from 29,220 (12,355 private) in March 2024″.

“As the empanelled hospital base grows larger, year-on-year additions may appear smaller, even though the actual numbers continue to rise”, it added further.

The TOI report said that only 2,113 hospitals were governed under the AB-PMJAY in 2024-25, quoting the government data provided in the Lok Sabha. The report also mentioned that in 2022-23 and 2023-24, the number of hospitals under the health insurance was 3,124 and 4,271, respectively.

Health Minister Prataprao Jadhav, providing clarification on the delayed settlement of claims, said that it is an ongoing process under AB-PMJAY and requires approval from different health agencies. The National Health Authority for payment of claims to hospitals has said that settle claims within 15 days under certain conditions.
