India’s youngest Chess legend R Praggnanandhaa on Tuesday expressed his gratitude to Anand Mahindra, the chairperson of automotive firm Mahindra Group, for gifting an electric car XUV 400 to his parents. The Chess prodigy took to his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) for thanking Mr Anand Mahindra.

Sharing the pics of the car handover, Praggnanandhaa wrote, “Received XUV 400, My Parents are very happy. Thank you very much Anand Mahindra sir.”

The Indian billionaire had in an earlier post said that many users had been encouraging him to gift a Mahindra Thar to Praggnanandhaa. The eighteen-year-old Chennai boy had finished second after Magnus Carlsen in the final round of the FIDE World Cup in August last year. Many on Twitter had urged Mr Anand Mahindra to gift him a Thar. However, he wrote that he has another plan to provide XUV4OO to his parent to encourage others to persuade their children to play Chess. He then noted the importance of cerebral games at a time when there was a surge in the popularity of video games.

In a post on X in August 2023, Anand Mahindra wrote that they would gift an XUV4OO EV to the parents of Praggnanandhaa, Shrimati Nagalakshmi and Shri Rameshbabu for nurturing their son’s passion and giving him untiring support.

“I would like to encourage parents to introduce their children to Chess & support them as they pursue this cerebral game (despite the surge in popularity of video games!). It”s an investment in a better future for our planet, just like EVs. So, I think we should gift an XUV4OO EV to the parents of Praggnanandhaa – Shrimati Nagalakshmi and Shri Rameshbabu, who deserve our gratitude for nurturing their son”s passion and for giving him their untiring support,” Mr Anand Mahindra Wrote.
