Levira, a small coastal town in Portugal, has been reported with a flooding early in the morning on Sunday. The local people remained stunned as the flood was of red in colour, seems familiar, and interesting in terms of odour.

The incident occurred in the small town of Sao Lourenço do Bairro after two tanks of the Levira Distillery, containing 22 lakh litres of red wine, busted. The video of wine flooding down to a sloped street became soon viral on social media.

Over 2.2 million litres of wine from the Levira Distillery, one of the largest distilleries in Portugal, flowed through the town’s streets, Portuguese media house Diário de Coimbra reported.

It was almost 600,000 gallons, as reported by the Portugal News, and was poured from the Levira Distillery, a winemaker in São Lourenço do Bairro, Portugal after two of it”s tanks burst out.

Local authorities, who quickly sprang into action, diverted the flow and prevent it from contaminating the nearby Certima River, says reports. They successfully drained the wine and moved it to a wastewater treatment plant nearby.

There are no injuries reported but it did flood a house’s basement that was near to the distillery.

The Levira Destilaria, took their social media on Monday and publicly apologize for the action. “We deeply regret the incident that occurred this morning involving the bursting of 2 suitable-to-consumption DOC wine storage units… we want to express our sincere concern for the damage caused in general in Levira and in particular to his home”, they wrote on Facebook.

They have also informed that the cause of incident is under investigation and the company is taking full responsibility for the costs associated with damage cleanup and repair.

“We”re committed to resolving this situation as soon as possible”, the company added.
