Indian wicketkeeper and batter KL Rahul will miss the first two matches of the upcoming Asia Cup in Multan, starting August 30. India head coach Rahul Dravid said during a press conference before leaving for Sri Lanka that Rahul will not be available for India”s matches against Pakistan and Nepal. Rahul was named in the Team India squad after recovering from an injury. Ajit Agarkar, Indian cricket board”s chief selector, had earlier said that the wicketkeeper-batter was suffering from a slight niggle.
“KL Rahul is progressing really well but will not be available for India’s first two matches – against Pakistan and Nepal – of the Asia Cup 2023,” Board of Cricket Council of India”s X handle posted as head coach Rahul Dravid was saying.

India”s first match of Asia Cup will be heald in Kandy against arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2.
“KL Rahul has had a good week with us, playing well, progressing really well but he will be unavailable for the first part for the Kandy leg of the trip,” Rahul Dravid said at the presser.
“The National Cricket Academy will be looking after him for the next few days while we are travelling. We will reassess on the 4th (September) and take it from there. But signs are looking good. He will be unavailable for the first two games,” he added.

Regarding Shreyas Iyer, the head coach said this: “Shreyas Iyer has ticked all the boxes in the practice session. We”ll give him game time in the Asia Cup”.
