FC Barcelona Sack Xavi Hernandez As Head Coach; Hansi Flick To Replace Him

FC Barcelona on Friday sacked Xavi Hernandez as their head coach with former Bayern Munich boss Hansi Flick set to replace him in the role.

The Barcelona legend will be in charge of the club for one last time on Sunday when they host Sevilla in the last La Liga match of the season. The 44-year-old was informed about the decision following a meeting with club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco on Friday.

“FC Barcelona wishes to thank Xavi for his work as coach, as well as for his inimitable career as a player and as team captain, and wishes him every future success in the world,” the club said in a statement.

Under the tutelage of Xavi, Barcelona won the La Liga title in 2022-23. The club is currently 12 points behind rivals and current La Liga champions Real Madrid in the points table. They were knocked out of the Champions League race in the  quarter-final stage by Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).

The Catalan giants confirmed that there will be an announcement of a new club structure for the first team in the coming days.

As per media reports, Flick is linked with the new head coach role at FC Barcelona. The German guided the record-Bundesliga champions to the treble in 2020, winning the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League.
