The Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) has unveiled 12 shortlisted players for the Best Men’s player 2023 on Thursday. Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Erling Harland leads the list of 2023.

Lionel Messi won the title Best player award in 2022 after captaining Argentina to the glory in the Qatar World Cup. Messi began with an impressive start in the Inter Miami club. But before joining, Messi won 2022-23 Ligue 1 title with PSG. Messi is also nominated for the Ballon d’Or award which he had won a world-record seven times.

The 2023 Best FIFA’s Men Player will be awarded recognizing the achievements from December 19 2022 to August 20, 2023.

After being crowned as the UEFA player of the year, Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland will be the arch rival of Messi this time. Manchester city goal machine smashed six Premier League hat-tricks last season. In his treble winning season, the Norwegian star has scored 52 goals in 53 appearances.

Arsenal’s record signing midfielder Declan Rice is the only Englishman to make it to 12 man-list.
Portuguese star, Al Nassr player Cristiano Ronaldo was not able to find place in the list of contenders loaded with talent and trophies. After winning 2016 and 17 one after other, he wasn’t able to win the title since 2023.

The awards are handed over in the basis of votes acquired by each shortlisted player. The voting is carried out by an international jury which composes of national team managers and captains and pool of journalists and a percentage of vote is from fans is done through the FIFA website, says Soccer.

The nominated 12 players are: Julian Alvarez (ARG), Marcelo Brozovic (CRO), Kevin De Bruyne (BEL), Ilkay Gundogan (GER), Erling Haaland (NOR), Rodri (ESP), Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (GEO), Kylian Mbappe (FRA), Lionel Messi (ARG), Victor Osimhen (NGR), Declan Rice (ENG), Bernardo Silva (POR).

Four members of world cup winning Spain’s team was nominated for the FIFA  best women player award, Hermoso, Aitana Bonmati, Mapi Leon and Salma Paralluelo. FIFA has announced the 16 nominees while current title holder Putellas could not make it to the list.
