English statistician Frank Duckworth, the man behind the Duckworth-Lewis (later Duckworth-Lewis-Stern) method, died on June 21, as per a report in ESPN Cricinfo.
The original method of determining results in rain-affected matches was devised by the English statistician and Tony Lewis. It was first used during an international match in 1997 and was then formally adopted by the governing council of cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC), for setting revised targets in rain-marred games.
The Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method was renamed in 2014 after the retirement of Duckworth and Lewis and some modifications brought into the system by Australian statistician Steven Stern.
Incidentally, both Duckworth and Lewis were awarded MBEs in June 2010.
