Global Chess League 2024: Format, Prize Money, Teams, Scoring System Explained

The second edition of the Global Chess League, organized by FIDE and Tech Mahindra Global, is slated to run at the Friends House, Euston Road in London from October 3 to 12.

The six-team event will draw total prize money of  US$ 1 million, following a double round-robin format with the final two teams battling it out to decide the eventual champions. In case, the final ends in a tie, blitz playoffs will follow.

A unique scoring system will be followed throughout the league. Teams will earn 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, and 0 for every loss. However, the game point system within each match is different, where players winning with black will earn four points while those winning with white will earn three. Each draw will them a point.

Each game will possess a time control of 20 minutes. Three to four matches are scheduled to take place every day with a total of 30 matches set to be played.
