An outstanding victory for India”s men”s hockey team! The team has secured their first ever championship title in “Men”s Hockey5s Asia Cup” on Saturday and the “men in blue” is flooded with appreciations from every corner of the nation.

The boys beat their rivals Pakistan by 2-0 in the shoot out after both team locked at 4-4 in regulation time. With the triumph, India have secured their foot into the upcoming FIH Men”s Hockey5s World Cup 2024 also. The 2024 Hockey5s World Cup will be the first edition of the FIH (International Hockey Federation) Hockey5s World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men”s and women”s national hockey5s teams organized by the FIH.

For India, Mohammed Raheel (19th and 26th), Jugraj Singh (7th) and Maninder Singh (10th) were the goal scorers during the regulation time, whereas Gurjot Singh and Maninder Singh managed to beat the goalkeeper in the shootout, says reports.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended his compliments through X (formerly Twitter).

“Champions at the Hockey5s Asia Cup! ! Congratulations to the Indian Men”s Hockey Team on a phenomenal victory. It is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our players and with this win, we have also secured our spot at the Hockey5s World Cup in Oman next year”, he said.

“The grit and determination of our players continues to inspire our nation”, PM added.

Following the conquest, Hockey India announced a cash prize of 2 lakh to the players and 1 lakh each for the support staff. “Congratulations to the Indian Men”s team for defeating arch rivals Pakistan and clinching Gold at the Men”s Hockey5s Asia Cup 2023”, wrote Hockey India on X.

“From being 2-4 down in the second half to winning the final of Hockey5s Asia Cup 2-0 in the shootout and defeating arch-rival Pakistan, speaks volumes about the grit & passion of our talented players”, said Union Minister of Sports, Youth Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur.
