In their ICC ODI World Cup campaign opener in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Sunday, India has beaten Australia to bag two crucial points. Indian batters Virat Kohli and KL Rahul emerged as the standout performers for India, leading the team to a convincing six-wicket victory over Australia.

Rahul showcased his brilliance with an unbeaten 97, while Kohli contributed a solid 85 runs.

Together, the Indian batting duo forged a crucial partnership of 165 runs, rescuing India from a precarious situation of losing three wickets for just two runs in their pursuit of a 200-run target.

Prior to this impressive batting display, the Indian bowlers collectively played their part by dismissing Australia for a total of 199 runs, as the Aussies chose to bat first.

Ravindra Jadeja played a significant role by taking three wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah each chipped in with two wickets apiece.

Commenting on India”s victory, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer called Virat and Rahul”s partnership as “a partnership for the ages”.

“Pressure doesn”t get bigger than when you”re 2/3 in a WC game vs a charged up Aus. Then to soak the pressure, wrestle the initiative back, and win the game takes something special. This was a partnership for the ages,” Wasim Jaffer wrote on Twitter.
