Virat Kohli, India’s star batsman who was under fire for his recent performances, smashed his 30th Test century on Day 3 of the first Test against Australia in Perth. Reaching the milestone in 143 balls, Kohli surpassed Sir Donald Bradman’s record of 29 Test tons. India declared at 487/6, setting Australia a daunting target of 534 runs.

Kohli after hitting his seventh hundred, erupted into celebration and went on to credit his wife Anushka Sharma with a gesture with his bat for being there for him even during his tough times.

Kohli took off his helmet and gave a flying kiss to Anushka, who was in attendance during the match in Perth.

“Yeah, Anushka has been right by my side through thick and thin. So, she knows everything that goes on behind the scenes. What goes on in the head when you don’t play as well or make a few mistakes. I just want to contribute to the team’s cause. I am not a guy who wants to hang around just for the sake of it. I take pride in performing for my country. The fact that she is here makes it even more special for me,” Kohli told the broadcasters after completing his century.

Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s brilliant 161 dominated India’s innings. The 22-year-old struck 15 fours and three sixes in a gritty 297-ball knock before being dismissed short of a double century. His 201-run opening stand with KL Rahul (77) was India’s best in Australia since 1986.
