India’s performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was its best, with the nation bagging seven medals. 117 athletes will represent India at the quadrennial showpiece event in Paris, the city hosting its third Olympics after 1900 and 1924.

Here is the list of India’s 10 major medal hopes:

  • Neeraj Chopra:

India’s finest athlete and single biggest medal hope, the 26-year-old Neeraj Chopra grabbed the ticket to Paris by hurling the javelin at a distance of 88.88 m and grabbing gold at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games. Chopra will take the field at Stade de France on August 6.

  • PV Sindhu:

     PV Sindhu is aiming to become the first Indian in badminton to win three Olympic medals. However, she hasn’t been in her greatest form lately, but one cannot write the big stage payer off.

  • Antim Panghal:

Panghal had won a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships and she became the first Indian wrestler to book the ticket at the Paris Olympics.

  • Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty:

The dynamic duo has been making great strides in the world of badminton. They have won nearly everything including the BWF World Tour Super 1000 title and the gold medal at Asian Games, and climbed up to world No.1 ranking.

  • Indian hockey team:

Indian hockey team ended the 40-year-long medal drought by winning a bronze in Tokyo. This was later followed by grabbing the gold at Hangzhou which booked then the ticket to Paris.

  • Aman Sehrawat:

Having struck the gold medals at both the 2022 Asian Games and the 2023 Asian Championships, the debutant Olympian is in top form.

  • Nikhat Zareen:

 After securing a gold medal in the Commonwealth Games and a bronze medal in the Asian Games, boxer Nikhat Zareen is now setting her sights on an Olympic medal.

  • Mirabai Chanu:

Only one weightlifter has lifted a weight greater than Mirabai’s best in the Olympic qualification cycle, and thus, it seems a foregone conclusion that the 29-year-old will taste the Olympic glory.

  • Vinesh Phogat:

One of India’s wrestling greats, who has already won off the mat and secured her first Olympic medal in her career after the pain of Rio and Tokyo, could find the perfect culmination of her career in Paris.

India’s shooting brightest hope, the 22-year-old from Punjab has clinched an individual gold and team silver at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Samra had also broken the 50m rifle 3 positions’ world record.
