Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) will host the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a five-match T20I series in Harare, slated to run from July 6 to 14. The bilateral T20 series will take place after the completion of the T20 World Cup 2024, which will commence from June 1 to 29.
Zimbabwe Cricket chairman highlighted the importance of hosting India and thanked its board for committing to the upcoming series. It will be the fourth time Zimbabwe will host India in a bilateral T20I series. They had previously hosted the heavy weights in 2010, 2015, and 2016.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting India for a T20I series in July in what will be our biggest international attraction at home this year,” ZC Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said.
“The game of cricket has always immensely benefited from India’s influence and dedication to the sport, and I would like to say a huge thank you to the BCCI for committing to tour Zimbabwe once again.”
The last time the two teams faced off was at the T20 World Cup in 2022, where India clinched a 71 runs victory in Melbourne. It was a memorable match for Suryakumar Yadav, the two-time ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year, as he stood out with his performance by smashing as unbeaten 61 runs off just 25 balls.
“The BCCI has always played a pioneering role in contributing to the global cricketing community. We understand that it is a period of rebuilding for Zimbabwe, and Zimbabwe Cricket needs our support at this juncture,” BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said.
