After Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul were ruled out of the second Test due to their respective injuries, premier India batter Shubman Gill”s injury scare looms large over the hosts. Gill who scored a century in the second innings did not take the field on Day 4 of the Vizag Test on Monday due to an injury to his index finger.

Gill sustained a finger injury while fielding at short leg on Day 2. While he batted after the incident and displayed his grit, the BCCI medical team deemed him unfit to play on Day 4. In place of Gill, Sarfaraz Khan who earned his maiden call-up in the series after the injury to Jadeja and Rahul has taken the field.

The injury for the young India batter is a cause of concern for the hosts. Besides sparking back to form with the bat, Gill has been a dedicated slip cordon for the hosts. He was crucial on the field in the second innings as he took four important catches during the second innings.

It remains to be seen how long the injury keeps Gill out of action. With the ongoing Test hanging in the balance and the hosts trailing 0-1 in the five-Test series, they will expect Gill to be fit for the third match at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot, starting from February 15.

The right-handed batter averages nearly 30 in the longest format after 22 appearances. He has three centuries and four half-centuries to his name.
