Ishan Kishan will continue to ply his trade in domestic cricket as he was named in the Rest of India squad for the Irani Cup, slated to run from October 1 to 5 in Lucknow.
The wicketkeeper-batter has been out of the Team India set-up since his last T20 appearance in November, 2023 and was snubbed from the BCCI annual contract in February. He made a return to first-class cricket for the first time since July 2023 with a century for India C in the Duleep Trophy.
With Rishabh Pant returning to take his place across formats as the first-choice wicketkeeper-batter, Kishan might have to wait longer for a return to the national team. His compatriot Dhruv Jurel has also been named in the ROI squad as he is set to lose his place in the Team India XI to Pant for the second Test against Bangladesh.
Fast bowler Yash Dayal and middle-order batter Sarfaraz Khan have been named in the ROI squad after missing out on the playing XI of the Team India squad for the Bangladesh Test.
Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane will lead the Ranji Trophy 2023-24 champions Mumbai.
