Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah made a remarkable return to international cricket, taking 2 for 24 as India defeated Ireland by two runs via the DLS method in the first T20I of the three-match series.

Jasprit Bumrah’s spell was instrumental in restricting the hosts to 139 for 7 as the captain bowled with pace, accuracy, and venom. The Irish were in trouble at 59 for 6 in the 11th over, but right handed medium pace bowler Barry McCarthy”s unbeaten 51 off 33 balls helped them post a respectable total.

Chasing a problematic total under overcast conditions, the visitors were off to a good start, with Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad putting on 46 for the first wicket. However, Craig Young took two wickets in quick succession to leave India at 50 for 3.

The match was eventually abandoned as there was no stopping rain with India leading by 2 runs.

Bumrah, the player of the match, was the pick of the Indian bowlers, and he was particularly impressive in his first over, when he dismissed Andy Balbirnie with a searing inswinger. He also removed Lorcan Tucker and George Dockrell, and his spell helped to keep Ireland under pressure throughout their innings.

The victory at Dublin comes as a boost for the Indian side after the Team India went down in the Caribbeans for 2-3 against West Indies in T20Is. India will play two more T20Is against Ireland in this visit. The next game will be played a day after at Malahide Cricket Club Ground or The Village.
