The Indian contingent kicked off the new calendar year with Malaysia Open Badminton 2024. Premier Indian shuttlers HS Prannoy and Lakshya Sen will be seen battling it out in the men”s singles category while Aakarshi Kashyap will be India”s lone hope in women”s singles. Kashyap was promoted to the main draw from reserves. There are no Indians in the mixed doubles category of the Malaysia meet.
Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is still recovering from injury and won”t be part of the BWF World Tour Super 1000 event. It will be a crucial event for the Indian shuttlers as it offers ranking points in the race to Paris 2024.
A total of 12 badminton players — four singles players and many doubles players — will compete at the event. The Malaysia Open 2024 will conclude on January 14. The qualification window for badminton started on May 1, last year.
No Indian has ever won the event.

The live streaming of the Malaysia Open 2024 will be available on Badminton World Federation’s official YouTube channel BWF TV and the Jio Cinema app and website. Malaysia Open badminton matches will be telecast live on the Sports 18 1 and Sports 18 1 HD TV channels in India.
