The World Cup 2023 opening ceremony is reported to be cancelled. The tournament will kick start on October 5 without an inaugural ceremony, this comes as a further disappointment for the cricket fans. Board of Cricket Council of India (BCCI) has confirmed that they have called off the opening ceremony.

Previously, they had decided to put up a grand ceremony including lacer shows and performances of Bollywood actors and singers in the ceremony. The ceremony was initially planned to be exhibited on a day before the start of the tournament, says the cricket lounge.

The opening match will begin on October 5, which will kickstart at 2pm.

But the BCCI and International Cricket Council (ICC) have scheduled a ‘Captain’s Day’ event involving all the 10 team captains at the Narendra Modi stadium on Wednesday. Now, only the Captain”s press conference will take place in Ahmedabad.

In the last time during the ODI World Cup in the sub-continent in 2011, a grand opening was conducted in Dhaka. Similarly, a grand event was conducted during IPL, which saw the presence of many Bollywood stars.

“In the case of the IPL, you can have a short opening ceremony, as the match starts in the evening. Here, the match starts in the afternoon,” said a source to The Times of India.

Meanwhile, there is little buzz in the city as the opening match does not involve India. But the whole crowd is all excited about the October 14 match in which India meets its archenemy Pakistan on the field.

The top officials of the ICC and the BCCI will attend  the World Cup 2023 opening ceremony. The World Cup 2023 will kick off in Ahmedabad on October 5 with a match between New Zealand and defending Champions England. Team Indian will launch their tournament campaign three days later in Chennai against sixth title chaser Australia.
