Sri Lankan all-rounder Angelo Mathews took his sweet revenge after dismissing the Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hassan during the World Cup match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The Sri Lankan player pulled out a ‘time celebration’ by showing Shakib al Hassan his watch indicating its time for him to go back to the pavilion.
The video of his celebration has set the internet on fire. Earlier in the day, Mathews became the first one to be dismissed in the 146-year history of international cricket as he took more than the permitted time- two minutes to bat. Shakib called for an appeal, and the umpire called the batter out.
Apparently, the Sri Lankan batter had trouble with his helmet. The decision of the umpire came in when Angelo asked for the replacement to his helmet as the strap fell off. Later, Mathews was seen discussing with Shakib, but Bangladesh did not withdraw their appeal which sent the former Sri Lankan skipper back with a duck.
As per MCC law, a batsman should be prepared to face the next ball within three minutes of a dismissal. However, in the specific playing conditions outlined for the ICC World Cup 2023, the time limit is reduced to two minutes.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) also posted the video on its Instagram handle captioned, “Angelo Mathews calls 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 on Shakib Al Hasan’s stint at the crease.”
