Rahul Dravid Will Continue As The Head Coach Of India

The BCCI has announced the extension of contracts of current head coach Rahul Dravid of Indian National team along with other support staffs on Wednesday. Dravid had initially two-year term which concluded recently with the ODI World cup. The legendry cricketer took over the position from Ravi Shastri after the 2021 T20 World Cup.

The head coach”s first assignment will be the tour of South Africa after signing the extension contract. The former Indian captain received multiple offers from different Indian Premiere League franchises but decided to continue as the head coach of the Indian team. Along with Rahul Dravid, BCCI has also extended the contract of batting coach Vikram Rathour, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey and fielding coach T Dilip. But the Board has not yet revealed the time period of the contract yet but Dravid is expected to continue at least until T20 World Cup 2024.

Under the leadership of Dravid, India finished runners-up in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup and maintained a good record in the past two years. The clash with South Africa will begin on December 10 with three T20Is and three ODIs, followed by two Tests in Centurion and Cape Town. After that, India will host a five-test series against England before the T20 World Cup in June.

After the defeat in ICC World Cup 2023, when he was asked several times if he planned to stay in the role, Dravid claimed he hadn”t given it much thought because he was too busy preparing the for the World Cup.

In a release, Rahul Dravid said,” the last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable.
